The IPRC started as Kicukiro College of Technology (KCT) was established by the Government of Rwanda in 2008. The core mission of the college was to develop and provide professional technical education at the level of diploma (A1).


In July 2008, the Government  decided to integrate Technical education and Vocational Education and Training into an integrated (TVET) system. New mandate, mission and vision also changed.


The college is among the three existing and operational Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC) in the country.


Each centre will act as Workforce Development Center (WDA) base for supervision, implementation and coordination of TVET activities in each respective region.




To provide technical education and vocational training at all levels in order to empower students and to enhance their opportunities for career advancement and success in a global economy



IPRC aspires to be a leading world class institution in the provision of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), producing graduates capable of developing and implementing creative technical solutions to identify social and industrial needs of Rwanda, the region and the international society.

Diploma (A1) Programs Offered

The programs are designed to offer Long term training and learning activities leading to the acquisition of:


–        Knowledge (Lectures, Library, e-sources)

–        Understanding (Tutorials, experiments)

–        Skills which are relevant for employment or self-employment. (workshops, laboratories, industrial attachment, entrepreneurship)


1) Civil Engineering:

  • Construction Technology
  • Environment Management   and water Technology


2) Electrical and Electronics


  • Electrical  Technology,
  • Electronics & Telecommunication

–        In October 2008, the college started with 209 A1 students of which 21 ware ladies

–        Current: we have 1586 students for :

  • In Full-time we have 775, 16% are female
  • In Part-time we have 811, 8% are females
  • There is  177 who are waiting graduation

Vocational Training and Short Courses


Vocational Training: 627 people were trained at Kicukiro (2009-March 2011) based on demand (in collaboration with WDA , Action aid, BTC, RDC, and, New life Ministries ….

  1. Short Courses:
    1. 376 trained in Biogas
    2. 40 trained in solar (photovoltaic)
    3. Currently there is 167 student in day program


  1. A. Korean support (2.5 Mio USD):

  • Through KOICA we have established a The Rwanda – Korea Technical Training Centre (RKTTC) for Vocational Education Training (VET)

The Rwanda Korea TTC Vocational Education Training in the following areas:


  1. Building Construction Dept Modules:


Masonry, Steel works (Reinforced Concrete), Carpentry and Joinery, Computer Aided Drafting


  1. Electrical Department Modules:


Electrical Measurements (common), Electrical Installation, Electrical Machines, Industrial Automation


  1. Industrial Installation Modules:

–        Plumbing, Welding, Sheet metal

4. IT Department Modules

–        Networking, Multimedia, and Office Automation

5. Automobile Modules

–        Automobile Mechanics, Auto-electrics / Auto-electronics, Body works, spray and painting


Training Modules (up to two years):


–        One year (1400 hrs) Vocational Training Programs combining the above modules in each department

–        Part time modules (700 hrs ) programs that combines some modules

–        Short courses (up to 3 Month) selected modules based on identified needs


  1. B. Kuwait Fund


  • Kuwait fund has agreed to provide a loan to the GoR for the extension of the Kicukiro Campus.

–        Construction of new buildings

–        Equipment for Laboratories, and Workshops that are not supported by Korean intervention and for new programs.

–        Training of Academic Staff (Diploma programs)




Become a centre of Excellency by:

–        Provide to the economy skilled graduates using trained instructors and well equipped workshops

–        Put into place new buildings that will allow the establishment of new programs in various fields

–        Establish a Training of Trainers Centre

–        Establish Entrepreneurship Development and Industrial Park
