Rwanda : Muganza: Banana fibers charcoal to save environment

Rwanda | Muganza Banana fibersAs a way of conserving the environment, Red Cross Rwanda has trained residents of Gatore sector in Kirehe district how to get charcoal out of banana fibers.

Residents say that the project is going on well because there are lots of banana plantations in this place, which is why they make use of fibers to protect the environment.

Ndikubwimana, who makes the charcoal narrates that they sell fiber charcoal in many places and earn a living although the capacity to produce enough is still low.

The president of Rwanda Red Cross, Dr Bernard Nzigiye says that teaching residents on how to make charcoal from banana fibers was one way of protecting the environment from smoke and to prevent respiratory diseases.

The training also was aimed at helping residents in villages to create jobs and work towards development.
