Professor Geoffrey Rugege has handed over at the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) where he has been Executive Director since 2008.
The handover between Rugege and his successor Dr. Innocent Mugisha took place on Friday 4th January 2013 at MINEDUC.
Mugisha is also the in charge of the Quality of Education in Higher Learning Institutions at NCHE.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr Marie Christine Gasingirwa, Director General of Science, Technology and Research at the Ministry of Education. Dr Daphrose Gahakwa, Chairperson of the NCHE Board and Dr Emile Rwamasirabo, member of the same board, were also present at the ceremony.
Dr Innocent Mugisha said that working as the Acting Executive Director of NCHE won’t interfere with his current duty of being in charge of the Quality of Education in Higher Learning Institutions, because he is confident and trusts NCHE staff collaboration because they have always worked as a team.
According to Rugege the main tasks that need quick follow up such include the Review of academic staff qualifications, Ranking of academic institutions and facilitating the task force in charge of establishing the University of Rwanda.
At NCHE, the professor who has gone into retirement will be remembered for his efforts to improve the quality of education in higher institutions of learning and spearheading the idea of merging all the eight institutions of learning under the same body of University of Rwanda which is in the pipeline.
