Police officers are the first beneficiaries to the Executive Development Programme

The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at the National University of Rwanda has opened an Executive Development Program to junior, middle and senior level managers.

It is under this arrangement that during four weekends from September15, 2012, fifteen police officers of the Southern Region Command are on training at the National University of Rwanda (NUR) on managerial skills for police officers.

While introducing the course Prof. Rama B. Rao, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management explained that it aims at enabling police officers to acquire managerial skills in planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling with hands on experience in a simulated environment.

Kanchi Srinivas, the Head of Management Department informed the police officers that the course is part of NUR program of community service. He said, “FEM organized this training in accordance with NUR program of community service. We hope that this training will help you to improve your service for the country.”

The Southern Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Elias Mwesigye commended the partnership between police and NUR and exposed the importance of the training on Managerial skills for police officers.

“Police officers lead groups of police agents and their clients. This training in managerial skills is very relevant to them because they need to be equipped with proper skills of human resource, communication, and management of conflict and time”, said Mwesigye.

The training is focusing on different subjects including management process, planning skills, effective communication, Human resource management, conflict and stress management, monitoring and evaluation of performance and others.
