The Independent Institute of Lay Adventists (INILAK) has entered into a research partnership with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography. The research will focus on environmental research issues.
According to the Rector of INILAK Dr. Jean Ngamije said that his institute wants to introduce a course in Environment and disasters to counter the rampant problems being caused by floods in the country.
“This Chinese institute has enough knowledge in this particular area, so we want them to help us introduce this course by helping us with teaching materials as well as the experienced teaching staff.
Ngamije who said that his institute has always introduced courses meant to answer prevailing problems, explained that organizations like Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), and the Disaster Preparedness Ministry don’t have professional manpower to address environmental problems.
The agreement that was signed by both institutions agrees to provide among other things bursaries for a Masters programme in environment management and to also provide teaching staff for two years.
A group of Chines specialists is traversing the country visiting areas prone to floods and areas that have environmental problems especially in the parts of Nyungwe, Rubavu, Musanze, and around Lake Muhazi.
